Announcement for the Earthquake in Japan on March 11, 2011
March 14, 2011
Dear Colleagues:
Thank you very much for your concern over us regarding the earthquake that happened last Friday.
We are based in Nagoya in central Japan, almost 1,500 km away from the epicenter of the earthquake. We did feel a very strong tremor on Friday that I had never experienced before, but luckily nobody was harmed and nothing was damaged. The entire firm is in normal operation and all of our members are safe.
However, many areas, especially in the northern part of Japan, were destroyed by the quake and tsunami as you probably witnessed in the media. Today, the northern and eastern areas in Japan including Tokyo is under the scheduled power outage, and the nuclear power plants in Fukushima are still facing difficulties. As our prime minister said, this is the toughest and the most difficult crisis for Japan after the end of World War II. The earthquake it self is the strongest in recorded history to hit Japan since 1900.
The Japan Patent Office was not affected by the earthquake either and is in normal operation. However, phone and facsimile lines are unstable after the earthquake. We recommend you to contact us and other Japanese colleagues using email.
We are certain we can overcome those difficulties. Thank you for your concern and support during this difficult time for Japan.
Best Regards,
