I am so very grateful to Sumio, Kawamura-san, and Ando-san for their generous contributions to this fellowship program, not only as sponsors but more importantly, with their hearts and souls as well.  I can sense that the Kawamura family has been built with hard work and love for one another.

If I had to describe the countless jaw-dropping experiences that I’ve enjoyed on this fellowship, I would probably use the Japanese word, “Subarashii!” (meaning “absolutely amazing!”).  But, one word alone can’t even come close to describing how remarkable this summer has proven to be.  Truthfully speaking, I am still in awe that such a program as the Kawamura Fellowship exists.  With such a jam-packed schedule, wonderfully-matched host families who greeted me with such warm smiles, and perfectly-timed arrivals at train stations so that Sumio could film us getting off the Shinkansen—it’s really quite a wonder how we accomplished so much in one short summer.  Moreover, I loved seeing how much enthusiasm Sumio and Kawamura-san had for every trip we took, even if it was for their 21st time!  The dedication and passion of each and every Kawamura Fellowship affiliate truly made it a very special experience for those of us who were fortunate enough to join this family.
